E! True Hollywood Story - Bettie Page (1997)
"From Pin Up to Sex Queen: Bettie Page"
This is an E! True Hollywood story but an incomplete one. At no time do viewers hear about Bettie's later struggle with schizophrenia or her 1979 arrest for attempted murder. The closest we get is towards the very end of the program when Bettie says, "I don't regret anything, just 2 or 3 bad experiences I had."
Still, this is a fascinating retrospective of Bettie's career and her entanglements with the law in the 1950s.
Popping in and out of the program are the following people:
Jack Page (Bettie's brother) - Karen Essex (Bettie's biographer) - Greg Theakston (Tease Magazine editor) - Jim Silke (illustrator/author) - Sam Menning (photographer) - Art Amsie (Camera Club photographer) - Addison Yeaman (Camera Club photographer) - Paula Klaw (co-owner of Movie Star News) - Ira Kramer (owner of Movie Star News) - Bunny Yeager (photographer) - Hugh Hefner - Dr. Susan Block (sex historian) - I.S. Levine (writer) - Dave Stevens (artist) - Robert Blue (artist) - Matthew Rolston (photographer/director) - Todd Oldham (fashion designer) - Shalom Harlow (supermodel) - Robert Reynolds (musician) - BR5-49 (band) - Debi Mazar - Guinevere Turner - Tom Goldsmith (city editor for the "Tennessean") - Steve Sullivan (pinup historian) - Ellsworth Boyd (columnist, Skin Diver Magazine) - Rev. Morris O. Wright (Key West Baptist Temple preacher) - Harry Lear (Bettie's third ex-husband) - Joe Zinnato (owner of Exploded Views Books)
and finally ... at
1:16:36 - Bettie Page herself is interviewed, in shadow.

Unfortunately just about the only thing you can’t buy in this world is another person. You don’t ‘own’ anyone no matter how many years you’ve invested in them. If someone doesn’t want you, they don’t want you and you’ve got to face up to that fact and move on. I have little sympathy for women like Betty Broderick who invest their whole being and identity in a man. Be a person in your own right. She was young enough and money enough to get back out there and do something with herself rather than the life of dependency that she chose, dependant on a man. And note, she blames the gun...’the gun went off’ like she didn’t pull the trigger five times. The gun did it by itself. No wonder he dumped her.

Did Dan not leave life insurance for his kids or something? I heard they were all having to work minimum wage jobs initially. And the daughter seems very bitter about not living the best lifestyle her dad provided. I’m just curious. Anyone know? The testifying daughter is more like her mom than she’d like to admit I bet.

All those men were evil and wanted to use her but got what they deserve. Anyone of them could have murdered her in the woods as well however they were called victims and none of them were investigated for any other crimes they were just called victims. Why would they take her out there in the woods?? a total stranger.

The reason why i believe the Irish pushed out the drug dealers ( well probably not now) is because Ireland is a small country with a pretty homogeneous population. If they saw their friends, relatives, friends' of friends dying from drugs you can bet your ass they would put a stop to it.

Honestly that women who's brother was murdered, was the most grown up person in the room in seeing that she had such a bad upbringing that she couldn't figure out any another way to survive! I'm not defending the fact that she killed all these men but also seeing that she had no other choice in that kinda situation.

I cannot understand how someone who was abused and bullied and disadvantaged to the degree she was, and for as long as she was, that would not eventually be vulnerable to snapping. This is why we need to support protection from violence (against women), we need to discourage exploitation of women, and we need to promote mental and emotional health. This abuse is way more common than some people understand. People treat people horribly. I would not be surprised if she was in fact assaulted by those men. I have seen women be abused by men. And just because they seem like "normal" men doesn't mean anything either. Misogyny is a social and cultural issue in our country that's widespread.

Betty was a hateful and impossible woman throughout their entire marriage according to everyone that actually knew them. She wasn't a sweet helpless little innocent lady. Betty herself said Dan never looked at another woman until he met Linda. Betty even found herself a boyfriend and still continued to terrorize Dan and Linda because she was hell bent on revenge. To this very day she doesn't have a drip of remorse for what she did - not even for the agony she caused her own children to endure. She's completely self absorbed. It's all about Betty and only Betty. My heart breaks for abused women but Betty wasn't abused. She held her own and could dish it out like a pro. She's a psycho. Psychopaths aren't made. They are born. If being in a bad marriage turned women into crazed killers, then you would be stepping over dead bodies everywhere you go. Still, I do feel some sorrow for her.
